"You shouldn't scare the kids like that, Probie," Tony drawled慢吞吞的說話方式 once they were alone, a faint暈倒 hint暗示 of old Tony mischief傷害 in his eyes. McGee wished they saw it more often but even so, he wasn't going to let it distract分心 him from making it clear to Tony exactly who ran this agency代理.

"I'm not the one who scares them," McGee pointed out.
「我不是那個嚇到他們的人。」McGee說出了重點。

"Are you kidding me? You've been down there doing a Gibbs on them," Tony said. He fished his cell phone out of his pocket. "I don't know what you said to them but I have seventeen calls from them, all begging me to tell them where I am."
「你開我玩笑嗎？你剛剛在那兒可是用了和Gibbs一樣的招式。」Tony說。他從他的口袋裡他出他的手機。「我不知道你對他們說了什麼，但是我有十七通未接來電，全部都是在哀求要我告訴他們我在哪。」

"They should have known where you were!" McGee snapped. "That's my point!"
「他們本來就應該要知道你在哪！」McGee咆哮：「那正是我的重點！」

"It's not their fault. I didn't want them to know." Tony sat down in McGee's big black chair and put his feet up on McGee's desk.
「這不是他們的錯。我不想讓他們知道。」Tony一屁股坐在了McGee的黑色大辦公椅上，並且把腳放在了McGee的辦公桌上。

"Which brings me to my other point," McGee said. He walked over to his desk and stood behind Tony. "Regulations say that no agent, and that includes you, Special Agent DiNozzo, goes out on an arrest without backup."
「這提醒了我另外一個重點，」McGee說。他越過了自己的辦公桌並站在了Tony的身後。「守則中說了，沒有一個探員──那包括你，特別探員DiNozzo──能夠不帶後援就進行任務。」

"Like Gibbs never did," Tony muttered. McGee slapped the back of his head.
「好像Gibbs沒這麼做過似的。」Tony小聲抱怨著。McGee搧了下他的頭。

"You're not Gibbs. Now get out of my chair, Tony."
「你可不是Gibbs。現在，從我的椅子上滾開，Tony。」

"You only had to ask, Director McGeek," Tony replied, with a grin咧齒笑. He got up, lumbered笨重地移動 across the room, and threw himself down on McGee's couch.
「你只需要問一聲，McGee主任。」Tony笑得咧出牙齒並回應道。他站起身，拖著腳步穿過辦公室走到另一端，然後用力地將自己拋向McGee的沙發。

"Tony 每 the rules are there for a reason," McGee said, in a softer tone, sitting down at his desk.

"I know." Tony shrugged聳肩.
「我知道。」Tony聳肩。

"This guy you went after 每 he's something to do with Jonssen, isn't he?"

Tony's entire全體的 body stiffened使僵硬. "Looks like it," he muttered喃喃低語. "I'll know more when I've questioned him."

"Tony, it's been four years," McGee told him. "Maybe you need to accept接受＃"

"Do you accept? Does Gibbs?" Tony interrupted插嘴, his eyes flashing閃現 angrily.

"No＃but you can't let the way you feel blind you to the real risks you take whenever you get a lead on Jonssen," McGee pointed out.

"They're my risks冒險 to take," Tony snapped猛然.

"Is that why you didn't take your team? Why you didn't even tell them where you were going?"

"Yeah." Tony shrugged.

"You should let them in. They're good people," McGee said. "And I'd feel much happier if they were with you, providing供應 backup後援, when you go off the grid鐵絲網 like this."

McGee sighed嘆息 每 they'd come to an agreement協議, when he became director, that Tony wouldn't call him 'probie' in public. Tony had stuck to that agreement religiously篤信地 ever since此後, but he took great delight取樂 in still using the nickname綽號 in private私人的, even though McGee outranked階級高於 him. Technically技術上 speaking, anyway. Sometimes McGee felt like he was *still* a young probie, and Tony his completely完整地 infuriating令人大怒的 but always more senior colleague同事.

"Look, Tony, if you won't do it because of the rules, then do it for me," McGee said, trying another tack. Tony raised a questioning eyebrow. "I don't want to be the one who has to tell Louis that his dad is dead because he went out without backup," McGee told him quietly. It was a killer blow自誇, and he knew it. Tony's eyes flashed, angrily.

"He's got Gibbs 每 and you and Ducky," Tony replied. "He's got more than enough daddies in his life. He'll be fine."

"I can't believe you just said that!" McGee said, heatedly激昂地. Only Tony could ever make him this angry. Tony did at least look a little ashamed慚愧的 by his words.

"Look, I'm not great at the whole father thing, Tim, you know that," Tony said, softly, and McGee knew he'd reached到達 him now. Tony rarely很少 opened up to anyone these days. The time when he would tell them anything and everything about his personal私人的 life was long gone. Although＃even back in the old days, for all the information he gave them it had never been easy knowing how much of it was true and how much of it Tony made up to misdirect誤導 people from the truth. In that, at least, he hadn＊t changed.

"You're his dad and he thinks the world of you," McGee said. "I know he'd like to see you more often - the kid idolises you 每 anyone can see that."

"He shouldn't." Tony shook his head. "I've let him down, Tim. It's been four years and I still haven't caught the bastard that killed Abby. Jonssen is still out there, and every lead I get on how to bring him down goes nowhere." He kicked out逐出 and caught the coffee table with his boot, sending it flying half-way across the room.

"Do you think Abby would have wanted you to do this?" McGee asked. "Do you think she'd prefer寧願 to have you chasing down the man who killed her rather than raising your son 每 her son?"
「你認為Abby會希望你這樣做嗎？」McGee問：「她會寧願你去追捕那個兇手勝過照顧你的兒子、她的兒子嗎？」

"Don't throw Abby at me," Tony growled. McGee took a deep breath.
「別拿Abby來壓我。」Tony咆哮。McGee深呼吸了一口氣。

"I loved her too. We all did," he pointed out. The anger faded from Tony's eyes.
「我也愛她。我們都愛她。」他直接了當地說。憤怒逐漸從Tony的眼中褪去。

"Yeah. I know," he muttered.

"Tony 每 you lose all sense感覺 of reason when it comes to Jonssen and I'm not going to let you take these risks冒險," McGee said firmly堅決地.
「Tony，每當事情扯上了Jonssen你就失去了所有的理智，而我也不能眼睜睜地看著你去冒這些險。」McGee堅決地說。

Tony glared瞪 at him. "You're not going to stop me following up any leads I get," he said, eyes narrowed.
Tony直盯著他。「你不能阻止我去追蹤任何一條可能的線索。」他瞇起了眼睛說。

"No, I'm not," McGee replied. "But you will take backup."
「沒錯，我不能。」McGee回道：「但你必須要帶上後援。」

"Or else?" Tony raised an eyebrow.
「不然的話？」Tony豎起了眉毛。

"I'll bring on the big guns," McGee said, with a tight little grin. Tony sat up straight.
「我會用上我最強勁的武器。」McGee說，臉上帶著一個不大明顯的僵硬笑容。Tony迅速坐直了身。

"You wouldn't do that to me, Probie."
「你不會這麼對我的，Probie。」

"I can and I will," McGee replied. "Tony 每 I told you last time that if you went out without backup again I'd tell Gibbs."
「我可以，而且我也會這麼做。」McGee回道：「Tony我上次就告訴你了，如果你再不帶後援就出勤的話，我就會告訴Gibbs。」

Tony stared at盯住 him for a long time. It was a stare that would have had all his team running for cover but McGee didn't falter支吾 under that hard-eyed gaze凝視, and stared right back at him, holding his ground.
Tony盯著他很久。那樣的眼神通常會讓他的小隊員們驚慌著跑開，但是McGee已經不是個會在這種眼神下支吾的菜鳥了，他只是堅持著自己的立場，並用眼神盯回去。

"You won't," Tony said at last, flatly.
「你不會。」最後，Tony斷然地開口說。

"Yes I will," McGee replied.
「我會。」McGee回道。

"Gibbs doesn't need to know about this," Tony growled.
「Gibbs不需要知道這些。」Tony咆哮。

"Gibbs doesn't need to know about what?" a voice at the door asked. Both McGee and Tony jumped and then McGee gave a wry扭歪的 smile; even after all this time Gibbs still knew how to creep潛行 up on them unawares沒覺察到的.
